Curator’s Notes

Deceptively lacquered black bamboo looks like metal. From afar these baskets have that appearance but once you lift them the thin strips have a lightweight feel that is surprising and a testament to the skilled bamboo craftsmen from the Kohchosai Kosuga studio. An equally thin stemmed flower would be the perfect match.
