Curator’s Notes

As part of Ryuji Mitani’s first foray into ceramics and sculpture, this piece embodies the care that Mitani used to form each sculpture by hand. We are mesmerized by the great attention to detail that Mitani works with to mimic the natural texture of the animals, such as a bird’s plumage on this particular piece.
