Description
I am a Silver Calligraphy Brush Stand. When your brushes need a place to rest, my hand-made peaks will hold them best.
Curator’s Notes
Masanobu Ando’s deep appreciation for the concepts of Zen culture takes physical form as he sculpts his own versions of traditional tools that aid in meditative practice. Similar to Japanese tea ceremony and flower arrangement, the art of Japanese calligraphy encourages harmonious thought and feelings of peace. The skill emphasizes fluidity and spontaneity, echoed in the irregular slopes of Ando-san’s brush stand. Brushes wet with sumi ink are meant to rest in the valleys between each ceramic peak. It’s a convenient spot to place your writing utensil, and adds visual interest to your desktop as a sculptural paperweight. You could also use the stand as a unique chopsticks rest!
