Curator’s Notes

This incense stand’s fine ridges and inky color make a dramatic backdrop for the fallen ash of burning incense. Its form is an abstraction of a chrysanthemum, a symbol of happiness and longevity. And indeed, when I light a stick of incense, I feel happy and rejuvenated. The smoke rises in the air, lifting spirits as it cleanses the energy of the space.

• Blackened antique brass finish
• Supplied in a paulownia (kiri) wood box
• Wipe with diluted dishwashing detergent and a soft cloth or gentle sponge after use if needed
• Wipe dry with a dry cloth
• Do not use a metal polisher
• The color may fade slightly over time
