Curator’s Notes

This platter is part of what Masanobu Ando calls his ‘Holland’ series characterized by simple shapes, wide rims and sweeping matte white surfaces. The proportions of the wide band really showcase what’s being presented in the center so the focus becomes on the food. It is slightly deeper than most platters making it perfect for items that can roll around and saucy dishes. The hand formed rims are slightly irregular and wavy providing a perceptible handcrafted feel.
