I am a Gold Bar Tray. Although I’m made of ceramic, don’t think of me as a fool. My beauty is worth its weight in gold.

Curator’s Notes

Whenever we sit down for tea with Ando-san, we notice how he uses this gold tray to hold the accessories necessary for a tea ceremony as a way of highlighting the tools for the ritual. We can’t help but admire how beautiful the tray is in itself. Handmade by Ando-san, this tray features a gold overglaze that will naturally patina with use over time. Its long shape sits elegantly on any surface, but it offsets particularly well on a narrow mantle or shelf.
