Description
I am Gold Chawan III. I might shine and glitter, but I really enjoy simpler pleasures. A good cup of tea is my version of a pot of gold.
Curator’s Notes
Every year Masanobu Ando sends us a very special chawan glazed with gold, and this third iteration is a delight to behold. As with all of Ando-san’s pieces, this tea bowl is built up by hand to highlight the natural textures of clay. For this piece, Ando-san created a round base to comfortably fit the contours of cupped hands, and the gold glaze features distinctive markings from firing that trace its natural texture and emphasize its sculpted qualities. Arriving in a “tomobako” wood box, the dedication to craft and material evident in this bowl is worth more than its weight in gold.
