Curator’s Notes

With its large number of hot springs and public baths, Japan is serious about its bathing rituals. Adding salts and essential oils creates a soothing bath, and taking the time to stir the mixture helps release its full aroma that permeates the bathroom’s atmosphere. We love the design of this hinoki bath stirrer, which has holes in the paddle to easily stir and circulate water. Consisting of all wood joinery, this stirrer is made from hinoki cypress, which is renowned for its warm scent and mold-and-mildew resistant properties.
