Curator’s Notes
Although these baskets appear delicate with their intricate woven pattern, they are made out of strips of bamboo and for this reason are quite strong. The lacelike pattern casts the most beautiful shadows and provides an airy surface for vegetables or fruit to rest on. As a company, Kohchosai Kosuga has a long history in manufacturing bamboo products by hand and the Mutsume baskets are a prime example of their expertise.
