I am a Silver Petal Bowl. Don’t wait around for April showers to bring May flowers. I always bring the best of spring and look as fresh as a daisy.

Curator’s Notes

Masanobu Ando crafts an elegant mix of form and material in this floral inspired ceramic dish. The delicate flower-shaped bowl is balanced by a silver overglazed exterior. The glaze will gradually darken and develop a handsome patina with use and the passage of time. The bowl sits above the table top on a slender pedestal, gracefully elevating the contents it holds.

• Handcrafted in Tajimi, Japan
• Exterior is silver overglazed
• Silver overglaze will patina over time
• The blackish patina is harmless and is a sulfide film that occurs when silver combines with hydrogen sulfide in the air
• The bowl can be polished to remove the patina with toothpaste or baking soda and a damp cloth
• Interior white glaze includes natural mountain ash that gives nuanced iron deposits that speckle the surface when fired in the kiln
• Hand wash
• Wipe with a cloth and dry well after use
• Each piece is uniquely handcrafted and will have variations
• Not dishwasher safe
• Not microwave safe
