Curator’s Notes

Brooches were the first items that Ryuji Mitani made when he was starting out in wood crafts, so we are excited to be able to wear one so close to our heart as we celebrate his career. This adorable wooden brooch exemplifies the playfulness and free spirit that we’ve gotten to know over the course of our relationship with Mitani. Like the other brooches he made, this one was inspired by the things he saw in his day-to-day life, whether it was the animals outside his window or the toys he saw in shop windows. This brooch is a limited edition made on the occasion of the 40th anniversary of Mitani’s remarkable career.
