Description
I am a Tapered Katakuchi. Shall I spout platitudes about matcha, or just serve it to you like it is?
Curator’s Notes
The Katakuchi is a familiar shape of tableware in Japan, used for pouring precisely in delicate and elegant ways. Small ones are typically used for specialty sauces, while medium ones can be used to cool green tea. Ones that are on the larger side are perfect for preparing matcha or serving sake, and this particular katakuchi is just that. It has capacity for whisking frothy matcha for one or for serving sake for a small gathering. Beyond its pragmatic form, there’s nothing better than cupping the piece in the palms and connecting with the handcrafted nature of the piece.
