Description

I am a Tetsubo Children’s Chair. Exploring the world and navigating your growing body can seem so uncertain and exciting at times, but you can count on me to cast-iron support for you.

Curator’s Notes

The contrast of hard and soft, natural and man-made make for a striking combination in Makoto Koizumi’s Tetsubo Chair. This sleek and austere chair consists of a minimal iron frame that extends up the back rest and a Sugi—or soft cedar—seat that folds into the front legs. The contrast between the two materials adds a visual playfulness, and their intersection creates a solid base for children who are learning to climb in and out of chairs on their own. The wide seat provides a sturdy base, and we’ve noticed that kids love to grab the backrest to lift themselves up. Built for toddlers between 1-4 years old, the Tetsubo Chair’s simple elegance and sturdy construction ensure that it will continue to endure and grow in the family home.
