Description
I am an Usuzumi Katakuchi Pitcher. I’m a winged whisperer of traditions, where the black night embraces the dawn, and each pour of sake takes flight with grace.
Curator’s Notes
This piece merges craftsmanship and soul. Hand-chiseled with care, its deep black urushi lacquer exterior, Mitani’s signature black lacquer, whispers of Japanese tradition. Inside, the artisan’s light “Usuzumi” strokes paint a canvas of serenity. The gentle curves, reminiscent of a bird’s graceful form, nestle in the palm of your hands, while its beak is delicately poised to pour sake with reverence. This katakuchi becomes more than a mere vessel; it’s a conduit for shared moments, and an homage to the beauty of Ryuji Mitani’s decades of artistry.
