Description
I am a Noir Chestnut Wood Vat. My shape is inspired by a large vat found in dark rooms for photography. I guess you can say that makes me picture perfect.
Curator’s Notes
The vat is one of Ryuji Mitani’s signature shapes. Although it has such a specific source of inspiration, from dark room photography vats, the piece has become synonymous with Ryuji Mitani. The high walls on a tray like this makes it the perfect portable tray. We also love how the “noir” urushi is saturated into the grain of the wood to give this piece an organic texture.
