Curator’s Notes

We love this plate for combining Ryuji Mitani’s signature Noir lacquer style with the distinctive characters of mountain cherry wood. The thick, black urushi is caught in the wood’s unique grains, catching the reflections of light and shadow within the piece. The plate’s thin rimmed walls keep everything you’re serving contained.

• Handcrafted in Matsumoto, Japan
• Features Ryuji Mitani’s signature on the bottom of the plate
• Do not soak urushi lacquered pieces in water for prolonged periods
• Wash with a soft sponge and mild dish soap
• Rinse with warm water
• Wipe with a cloth and dry well
• Each piece is unique and will have variations
• Urushi lacquer will become less glossy and more matte as time goes by
