Curator’s Notes
This basket is woven from thin strips of durable bamboo into a delicate six-sided pattern called “mutsume” in Japanese. Made by Kohchosai Kosuga, known for their mastery in bamboo products, the craftsmanship behind this simple basket has been honed for generations. The company even sources a specific variety of bamboo for its strength and sustainability. This basket looks great filled with a few pieces of fruit or storing items. I love keeping it on the table as a basket for cloth napkins. If you place a square of parchment paper on the bottom, the basket becomes an elegant way to serve snacks or fruit.
