Square Cornered Beech Cabinet

Jiangsu, circa 1880

This vintage cabinet dates back to the late 1800s and was fashioned in Jiangsu province on the eastern coast of China. Its heavy frames, panels, and central-set doors are in keeping with the traditional furniture styles of the area, including that of Shandong to the north. Beech wood was the material used, with a light finish on the outside and a darker lacquer for the interior. Two drawers and decorative hinges and hardware give an intriguing touch and the cabinet would be ideal for storage in any home.
