Carved Shanxi Cabinet

Shanxi, circa 1860

This striking Chinese antique cabinet is from Shanxi province and dates from the mid nineteenth century. The old, dark lacquer is original, now worn to show the natural wood colour around the base of the doors and feet, as well as on the top surface. The doors are set centrally on wooden dowels, with two drawers above. The cabinet’s spandrels are beautifully carved and taper down to the feet. A lovely cabinet in its original finish.
